It was really well organised and Old Warden absolutely lends itself to this type of show - I'm really not sure that Duxford would work half as well. The sun made it through at times which made it lovely for photography and pleasantly warm for the picnic too! Will post a few of mine shortly.
Cheers,
Chris

Daren and Chris,
Beautiful photos from both of you. They all look great, but the DH.88 Comet is quite something!

It looks to have been a pleasant evening, with a feature sky and good light. Some excellent nostalgic shots. Did anyone take a picture of the audience layout, to give an idea of how the spectators were arranged?

Just looking at Darren's first DH88 post, 1/250 f/11 ISO 320 : I'd be mightily happy with that. Must get some practice in with my recently resurrected 800mm f/8 mirror (Actually 500mm, but with a 1.6 crop factor for those of us APS-C users)…
I think next year's comp is going to be hotly competitive (but not by me!)

Thanks Bob I have been practicing as much as I can . Alistair to be fair there wasn't much to see spectator wise , everyone parked in their 5m x 5m box and set up camp there . All three car parks were sealed off by marshalls so you couldn't walk around the site and you was asked to stay in your box apart from going to the toilet or getting food or drink . We didn't get there until 4pm and it took 35 minutes to get through the queue . I would say we probably had the worst view in the show but it was still very good as they flew the whole length of the runway I believe all of the next 5 shows there this year are going to use this format but dont let that put you off , we had a lovely relaxed evening . Darren Harbour sent me this photo he took from the air ( I'm sure he wont mind me showing you it ) to give you an idea of the layout

A useful aerial shot, actually - a picture tells a thousand words!
Shades of Farnborough (in the good ol' days when the car parks weren't in Wiltshire), a 'get there early and have your car near the front' (early being a speculative time in respect of Farnborough in the 50s and 60s).
Does make you wonder why, since you couldn't leave your box, why they bothered to arrange some aircraft neatly on the crowd line by the Tower, though, doesn't it?
And finally:
I am somewhat curious to know why a D810 with a full frame sensor reports a 500mm f/4 as being 700mm (35mm equiv) on Flickr! Or am I missing something (and I know about loss of my marbles…)
