For those of us who thought about what colour the Duxford Handley Page Victor was going to be, the answer is green and grey camouflage. They started painting it this week. Click on link for pic: link

Okay Bob; how do I add a photo within the link. I tried to add one from Flickr by inserting the link with no joy. Does the link have to end in jpeg gif or similar? Thanks.

Thank you Keith for the news. What a shame. I've been waiting several years in the hope that DX would throw away the refuelling pods and revert the only surviving example of the Mark 1 Victor to it's original Cold War matt white overall finish as a B1A (as shown in the photo of that aircraft on the info panel in front of it) rather than the later camouflaged B1AK(2P) scheme that now appears to be happening.
Next question, what are IWM going to banish/sell/give away/junk from AeroSpace hangar to make room for it? The saga continues!
I also understand that the photo on the info stand showing it dropping a maximum bomb load was slightly doctored in pre PhotoShot days. Apparantly the first batch of bombs had fallen out of view of the cameraman by the time the final load was released. But with some clever stuff in the dark room (remember them?) the dramatic full load bomb drop image was created. It is still impressive.

The picture referred to above of the Duxford Victor XH648 as a B1A bomber in all white - magnificent! - showing the maximum bomb drop. The photographer captured the first salvo (3 lines) but by the time the second salvo (two lines) was dropped the first was out of view, hence the photgraphic sleight of hand to stitch both parts of the maximum drop onto one picture. Only later was 648 converted into a two point tanker, becoming a B(K)1A(2P), in grey/green camouflage. Attachments:
