After the recent Photo Competition, I asked if there was interest in doing a Zoom session on the basics of photo-editing. A few of you came back and said Yes so I am going to host a session on this on Tuesday May 24th at 19.30.
Before we go any further, I do need to point out that I do not consider myself to be an expert on the subject in any way! There are some extremely powerful pieces of editing software which can do remarkable transformations into true digital art in the hands of skilled operators. That is not what this session is about! I will focus instead on how to use free software to take photos which are “OK” and try to give them greater impact. This might include:
• Cropping
• Straightening the horizon/runway
• Tweaking exposure and contrast
• Adjusting any colour cast/bias
• Sharpening the image
• Removing dust spots
This might just give you some food for thought on how to make some photos stand out a little bit more with really only a minimum of effort on each one.
If this whets your appetite, we could go on further to look at using Photoshop or Lightroom in a follow-up session and I have a couple of volunteers who have offered to host that if there is a demand for it but this first session is for anyone who just wants to look at simple tweaks that can make quite a difference.
Please come back to me and let me know if you would like to join this session and I will send out the Zoom link. You could also send me a photo to play with beforehand if that is of interest.,
All the best,
Chris
