I'm sure all of you have seen the Memorial on tv etc , well on 7th June 2019 we visited the day after Teressa May opened the statue on the plinth . At that time that was all that was there along with the stone saying she opened it 1. Gold Beach Memorial by Daren Eaton, on Flickr Well it looks a bit different now , If you get chance its well worth a visit . Thanks for that - this was only a pipe dream when I visited the D-Day sites in 2013!
At last we have something in commemoration that the other nations (including Germany) have had there for years.
I lost two relatives in this conflict, in the Navy at Oran (Operation Reservist) and in the RAF over Sicily (Operation Husky). The former commemorated on Chatham Naval memorial, and the other in the CWGC Catania War Cemetery, both of which I hope to visit, sometime...
